About JAG

Essential information about the Jaguar Associate Group

JAG, the Jaguar Associate Group, is the Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA) officially sanctioned club for Jaguar enthusiasts and their families in the Greater San Francisco area including San Francisco, Silicon Valley and all communities in the North Bay, East Bay, South Bay and Monterey Bay areas. We were one of the first Jaguar clubs formed with meetings being held continuously since our formation in 1955. The annual membership dues for JAG includes membership in JCNA.

With a large, diverse membership owning over 325 Jaguar cars from pre-war to today's Jaguar vehicles, we offer something for all Jaguar lovers in the area.

Every month we hold at least one day event as well as several overnight drives during the year. Throughout the year we have drives, social events, museum visits, tech sessions and a People’s Choice Concours.   We also hold events in participation with other car clubs.

JAG members receive our newsletter, the JAGazette, monthly and the Jaguar Journal, JCNA's magazine, six times per year.

A Long History

The Background

Our first Meeting of 25 Jaguar owners was held at the Trail's End Restaurant in Oakland, California on Friday, January 21, 1955. And so was started the Jaguar Associate Group (J.A.G.) club.

Long before mankind invented the wheel, many animals were domesticated and became man's beasts of burden. Elephants, camels, dogs, horses, mules and yaks surrendered. Most curiously, the felines rebelled. Today, the lithe Jaguar remains unridden and untamed.

Our breed of car was named in respect for this wild jungle beauty with good reason, for grace and pace were inbred. In the process, production practicality and optimum utility were very much secondary goals. This very contradictory wheeled feline is nurtured in only a small plot of the transportation field.

Owners love her virtues, a simple, voluptuous elegance, the courage of her crackling snarl as she attacks unmentionable monsters in the throaty purr after her meal. Owners may swear at, but accept her vices. A famous architect once prayed, "God, give me the luxuries of life and I'll gladly do without the necessities."

Frequently Asked Questions

What do JAG members do for fun?

Mostly we drive! Day trips, multi-day drives, car shows, and judged Concours competitions all get both us and our cars out on the road. JAG arranges visits to private collections and presentations by individuals & vendors with specific maintenance & restoration skills. Social events include a holiday party for all members and meals together on driving trips.

What is included in JAG membership?

The annual membership fee provides you and your spouse/partner/household with full access to all club benefits including our monthly JAGazette newsletter, access to activities, our private online discussion Forums and Facebook Group. JAG membership also includes membership in the Jaguar Clubs of North America, or JCNA, which is the umbrella organization for all North American clubs like JAG, and a subscription to JCNA's magazine, the Jaguar Journal, published six times per year.

Are there any additional fees?

Individual driving and social events may have additional fees to cover club costs related to materials, insurance, meals, etc. See examples on any Events page under the Events menu.

What geographic area does JAG cover?

Our members reside in all Bay Area and most Northern California counties, several nearby states plus at least two foreign countries. While our events are focused on northern California, our membership is open to anyone regardless of where they live.

Gene Babow Memorial Trophy

In 1989 the JAG membership decided to create a perpetual trophy to be awarded each year at the Club's People’s Choice Car Show.

Having decided to create this award, the next decision was the name of the Trophy.  The name chosen was the People’s Choice Gene Babow Memorial Trophy in recognition of the role of JAG's founding President in 1955 and 1963, Gene Babow.  Gene led JAG through the early days and nurtured the club, establishing the foundation for today’s great club.
